Divorce lawyers see marriages end for a number of reasons, some of which are a bit stranger than others. Here are just a few of the weirdest cases divorce attorneys have ever seen.
A Genie Was Possessing Them. – A man in Dubai once divorced his wife, who was “possessed by a genie,” Gulf News reported. When she refused to sleep with him, her family told him that she’d been possessed by a djinn — a mythological, Arabic genie. After several attempts to exorcise the spirit from his wife, he wound up divorcing her.
Old “Guantanamo” Was Calling. – Some people have cute names for their significant others, like cupcake or sweetie. Others have less fun names. Just ask the Saudi woman who divorced her husband when she found that he stored her number in his cellphone as “Guantanamo.” She called it, realized he’d left it at home, and then saw the caller ID. He claimed that it was to protect their privacy, because he didn’t want people to know that his wife was calling him. Then again, how much better is it that people think an infamous U.S. military base was calling?
He Didn’t Like Frozen, So She Let Him Go. – Having the same taste in movie can be pretty important in a relationship, but it’s not usually a make or break deal. However, one Japanese woman filed for divorce after she found out that her husband “didn’t care for” Frozen. She told him that if he couldn’t understand what made the movie so great, then there was “something wrong with you as a human being.” So, she let him go.
